Tika went from miserable to lucky in just one day.
This skeletal dog, severely emaciated and on the brink of the inevitable, was literally living her last minutes on Earth. She had been attacked by a vicious animal, leaving her face covered in severe wounds.
As she awaited the moment to close her eyes one last time, Tika had given up hope that her life would take a positive turn…until a kind-hearted Border Patrol agent crossed her path!
Saved At The Last Moment
When the agent encountered Tika for the first time, it was truly agonizing. The left side of her face was ripped off, causing this teeny-tiny girl a serious infection.
“Sweet, TIKA was rescued by a Border Patrol agent in her last minutes on earth…she was agonizing,” The Buddy Foundation, based in Eagle Pass, Texas, wrote on Facebook.
Even though it’s not quite clear how the attack occurred, Tika’s condition said it all.
The agent didn’t think twice. He rushed her to the Texas shelter in no time, saving Tika’s life at the very last moment. Had it been one more day in the wilderness, she definitely would not have survived.
“Tika is a walking miracle and we’re so glad we found her when we did. She would not have survived another day out there in the condition she was in,” Tika’s rescuers added.
Still, she had a long way to go. This poor little girl wasn’t able to eat or stand on her feet. She needed professional help, which is why the rescue transferred her to a local vet clinic.
During the first ten days in intensive care, Tika was on IV and received care around the clock. Thanks to her caregivers’ persistence, she slowly began to feel better.
Seeing her eat from a syringe for the first time was truly a blessing. It was a turning point in her life…one that meant Tika would come out of her life battle as a winner.
And, boy did she win!
Everyone, Meet Princess Tika
After days of being curled on a blanket in the Texas rescue, Tika finally made her first steps! Ultimately, that only meant one thing – she was ready for a foster home.
The rescue matched her with an amazing foster momma who welcomed this tiny girl with an open heart. Tika began to make friends, feel comfy in the new environment, and come out of her shell entirely, resembling a little princess.
She loved every single thing about her new home, even the doggo bed her momma prepared for her.
Sadly, Tika had one more setback on her life journey. She was diagnosed with canine epilepsy that causes her occasional seizures, but she tries her best not to let that affect who she is. And, she is definitely one happy pup who appreciates her new life!
Tika is truly grateful for being saved.
“She’s so grateful for everyone that came together to save her little life just in time. Today she is alive and happy,” her rescuers concluded.
Her sweet nature and zest for life are definitely helping her overcome every challenge. And, they also helped her foster mom realize that she was a keeper!
After a few wonderful weeks in a foster home, Tika was finally adopted. She now has a home to call her own and a family that loves her endlessly.
Leaving her old life behind, Tika has finally learned what it means to be loved. And, she couldn’t be happier!
