All Sweet Potato ever wanted was someone to love her – and someone to love! Yet, what she received instead was truly heartless abandonment in a local park in Florida, resulting in thousands of nightmares.
This teeny-tiny furry baby faced a series of health-related challenges in the following days.
After finally being captured by animal control, Sweet Potato was deemed “too broken” for any sort of intervention. Consequently, she faced the cruelest outcome: being scheduled for euthanasia.
She Had A Series Of Health Issues
After being admitted to a shelter by Florida’s Broward County Animal Services, Sweet Potato was practically a lost cause. She was all skin and bones, severely emaciated and anemic.
Given her kind temperament and comfort around people, this tiny dog likely had an owner, which made her case even more heartbreaking.
Sadly, due to her severe medical needs, the shelter couldn’t afford to treat Sweet Potato. Instead, they scheduled her for inevitable euthanasia, terminating every hope that Potato could ever live a decent life.
That’s when Tri-County Animal Rescue in Florida came into the picture!
Upon reviewing Sweet Potato’s case, this rescue felt an overwhelming sense of compassion for her. As it turned out, she was dealing with so much more than just starvation. Sweet Potato was on the brink of the inevitable, even without euthanasia.
“She was rescued from the euthanasia list at Animal Control, where her severe medical needs exceeded their resources. She was emaciated, dehydrated, anemic, and suffering from a pneumothorax and a broken rib caused by trauma,” the rescue stated on Facebook.
The Frenchie was immediately subjected to vet care.
Her innocent-looking eyes literally pleaded for a second chance, and the Florida-based rescue knew they couldn’t let her down.
Sweet Potato Beats All The Odds
To say that Sweet Potato is a fighter is truly an understatement.
She showed extraordinary resilience throughout her healing process, which included extensive care, X-rays, ultrasounds, IVD, anti-inflammatory medications, bloodwork, and a specially-designed diet to support her recovery.
In order to make sure Sweet Potato had 24/7 care, she was properly monitored by the staff.
At one point, Sweet Potato even went home with the hospital director for 24 hours as she was in critical condition. Luckily, the team’s dedication and Potato’s unbreakable spirit were a winning combination.
Today, she is officially out of danger, even though her healing journey isn’t over yet. She is slowly but steadily learning how to trust and enjoy life in ways she couldn’t before.
“Day by day, she’s regaining her strength, her trust, and her joy. Her wagging tail and loving personality are proof that hope can triumph over hardship,” the rescue concluded.
Once she’s fully recovered, Sweet Potato will embark on another important journey of her life – finding a forever home. And, that’s really an adventure she’s eager to begin – hopefully as soon as possible!
Be well, sweet girl! You deserve the best life!
