We often imagine the ideal scenario when it comes to dogs and their lives—happy puppies with their loving mother in a warm home surrounded by kind-hearted people. Unfortunately, this vision is far from reality; the truth is often much harsher than we realize.
Many dogs spend their first days of life on the streets or, at best, in a dog-friendly shelter where they are safe from the risk of euthanasia.
Even in such shelters, however, things can go wrong, sometimes with heartbreaking consequences. Tragically, this was the case for one Dachshund puppy whose life took a devastating turn when his mother left him with a scar that would stay with him forever.
The Most Unwanted Puppy
When people came to the shelter where eight-week-old Dachshund puppy, Nemo, was, they would stare at him from a distance with the desire to maybe adopt him.
However, as soon as they got a little closer to him, they would change their minds in disgust and continue looking for other dogs and puppies.
All of his siblings, as well as most of his peers, soon found their forever homes while Nemo remained in the shelter.
However, as much as people preferred adopting a puppy, they wanted one that had both ears. Unfortunately, Nemo did not have his left ear due to a heartbreaking event when he was still with his mother.
Namely, at one point, she got so aggressive that she bit off his ear. It was a shocking and beyond-heartbreaking turn of events, but unfortunately, it can happen sometimes.
According to Wag Walking, some dogs can not adapt to motherhood, and because of this, they tend to hurt their puppies. It is not something that occurs very often but poor Nemo was not lucky enough to escape such a sad fate.
It almost ruined his entire life.
“Loved Beyond Belief”
Nemo remained in the shelter all alone without all of his brothers and sisters. It was a very sad sight to see him behind kennel bars without much hope that he would ever be adopted.
However, just like the bright light at the end of the tunnel, a good soul appeared and changed everything. Abby Godbold, who already had several dogs and cats at home, was so touched by his sad story that she decided to give him a forever home.
As soon as she brought him to her house, Abbie knew that it was one of her best decisions because it felt like he’d always been part of the family. After a few difficult days, Nemo adapted to his new home and forgot about all the traumas he had been through.
The best example of this is a December 6 Instagram video Abbie posted via her account, @wreckitralphie___, showing Nemo enjoying his new, happy life.
“POV: you’re a one-eared puppy that no one wanted and now you’re at a Christmas market, loved beyond belief tying whipped cream for the first time,” she wrote in the video, while the caption read: “Couldn’t love him more if I tried, 2 ears or none 🥹🩵.”
Although his life was a tragedy from almost the first day, fate granted this puppy unimaginable happiness in the form of a good soul who did not care about his looks but loved him as he was.
